Thank you so much to all of our parent helpers this week! We have been using wheels and axles to make a car that will travel the furthest. The children loved using a range of materials to make their car and then decorated them. We had a bus, a police car, a car with wings and many more. Here are our finished vehicles, they all drove really well!

The children has been learning about sun safety. They know to wear sun hats and sun cream when necessary. We have also talked a lot about how important it is to drink lots of water on a hot day. Here are some pictures of us having lots of fun outside today!
We have LOVED this story! The children are bringing busses home for the weekend to help add to our class books. It would be great if they could write about their bus in sentences. Please use the address below to watch the story for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqQ1BAEj1oE It was great fun playing busses outside!
The children were confident in finding spheres, cylinders and cubes.
It was trickier finding a cone! The children are really enjoying our current topic, we are learning about Africa. The weather, animals, houses and way of life. As part of our exploration of different places we have been booking exotic holidays in the role play area! We used clay and modelling tools to create a piece of fruit from the story.
Can you guess which is which? We are doing a wonderful job of writing sentences independently. These children wrote about their favourite part of our trip to Barleylands Farm. We have all been writing about the trip, here are just a few examples of the excellent work that the children have produced this week.
On Monday it was great fun getting messy in the mud kitchen and water area outside! The children have enjoyed playing in our new small world areas.
Thank you so much to Mrs King for making these for us. We had THE BEST day at Barleylands! It was brilliant learning about the animals and feeding them too. We spent a long time visiting different animals including the Aviary and the Reptile House. Inside the Poly Tunnel we found lots of herbs, fruits and vegetables growing. We even brought some carrots and onions back to school with us!
After such a busy morning it was time for a very bumpy tractor ride. After a nice lunch in the sunshine we went into the farm kitchen as baked some pizzas. These were made of fresh ingredients straight from the Poly Tunnel. Before heading back home on the coach there was time to play at the park and on bouncy pillow.
We have had an incredible day at Barleylands! Thanks to all the parents who helped us throughout the day.
We started the day by reading 'The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza' followed by making our own pizzas. Children made the dough, then added their own toppings. Can the children tell you what topping they added? They also got the opportunity to turn wheat into flour using a grinding machine. After lunch we visited the various animals on the farm and were able to feed them. What animals did your child feed? They got to stroke a gorgeous bunny rabbit too. The children also looked at various herbs, vegetables and fruit growing in a polytunnel, followed by walking through a bird aviary. At the end of the day we went on a tractor ride and the children were delighted to go on the bouncy pillow before leaving to head back to school. We want to say how proud we are of all children in Butterfly class. They behaved incredibly well are an asset to our school. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos. In the creative role play area we will be shopping, shoe shopping!
The children will be writing their own price tags and receipts as well as measuring their feet to see which shoes will fit. We are learning about the Muslim festival of Ramadan. The children have really enjoyed designing their own Ramadan Mehndi patterns.
It was really interesting looking at a Muslim prayer mat. We were all surprised about how colourful it was, and it felt really soft too. We are starting to get ready for our very first Sports Day. So far the children have had a go at running in straight lanes, throwing javelins and throwing at targets.
As part of our work on "Growing and Farming" we have been planting seeds. We could choose between peas, sunflowers or spinach. We put soil in our named cup and them made a hole with our finger. We planted the seed in the hole and then gave it a good water. We have left our seeds out in the sunshine during the day, but we are bringing them in at night while it is still cold. Please watch this space to see our seeds turn into beautiful flowers or vegetables. We hope you enjoy our photos. By Tuesday 7th May, after one week some of the seeds have started to grow.
It's been great fun exploring our new topic! We have read lots of stories about farms and growing things. The children wrote about what happened in the story of 'Oliver's Vegetables' and have enjoyed digging up and weighing vegetables of their own. We are starting to learn about which food crops are grown on farms, and how some of our favourite foods are made.
Can your child tell you how chips are made? |
