For the next couple of weeks we will be looking carefully at all the different colours of the rainbow. We will use this 'Colourful Creatures' book to help us. Tuesday's colour was red. We used red paints, pastels, pens and pencils to draw and create whatever we wanted. It was fun looking at all the different animals that were red too. Some we had never heard of before! The colour for Friday was green.
It was fun mixing yellow and blue to make different shades of green. There were some green insects hiding in green gloop that we had to find!

We have been learning how to count in 2's, starting from the number 2. We are beginning to learn about odd and even numbers. We have realised we have lots of things in pairs on our body and we can count them quickly by counting in 2's. We have been counting our eyes, ears, arms, legs, hands and feet in groups and we were accurate and fast!. On the playground, the children got themselves into groups of 2,4,6,8 or 10.
It's been fun learning about Easter! The children can talk about why Easter time is special for Christians and are discovering the different way that people celebrate. We've made Easter nest cakes, gone on an Easter egg hunt with the PA and made lots of arts and crafts.
We have been having lots of fun on the gymnastics equipment. We had to think very carefully about travelling across different level benches and getting ready to jump. We had to make sure we had both feet together and bent our legs before jumping. Please excuse some of the blurry pictures but we all thought you would like to see us in action! We were given the opportunity to make our own models this week. Children demonstrated great imagination and skills to create their own finished products. Can you work out what we have made?
Children have really enjoyed playing with the dinosaurs in the jelly baf this week. It is such a great sensory experience for the children.
We went on a Spring hunt around the school. The children took their checklists with them so they could mark down what we found on the way. Unfortunately there were no lambs on the school grounds, but we did find everything else! As part of our learning about living things we have set up a garden centre. The children are looking after real plants as well as using coins to pay for the things they need to buy. We also have some living creatures in the garden centre!
The ladybird in our ladybird house has been running around today. We used magnifying glasses to watch it as well as the caterpillars that are getting very big and fat. An important part of our EYFS curriculum is helping the children to grow into resilient risk takers. While outside this afternoon, some of the Rainbows decided to make a pathway out of crates. It was important to discuss where to place these and how high they should be.
The children decided that the astro turf was safer than the playground. They came up with their own rules such as one at a time on each crate, and no running. This half term we are using the mats and benches in P.E. The children can now get out and put away all equipment safely and know how to jump and land on a mat. It's been really good fun travelling across the benches in different ways.
This afternoon we spent some time developing our gross motor skills by throwing
balls into the hoops to score points. This was good fun! Today we have raised money for 'Red Nose Day'. The children looked fabulous wearing their own clothes and accessories! Thank you for supporting this very important charity.
